How To: Creating your Personal Page

Hi @ll,
This tutorial is very simple, and I think it will take you 1 minute...
All of you are advanced students, and here you will see how to ...

  • Add a post, your personal Web Page, in the blog.
  • Add text, change the text ( fonts, text style ... )
  • Insert one image
Is anybody still reading ? I don't think so, but here is the tutorial...

1)Logged in the blog, we go to "New Post". In the picture below you may see my pointing device
before clicking on the menu

2) Now we are in the New Page to Publish, We have to remark several different areas

  • The Title
  • The tools bar
  • The text area
  • The Preview/Edit HTML/Compose buttons
  • The Labels Text Box
  • The Post Options button
  • The Publish / Save Now buttons

The title

You have to decide a title for your Web Page. This one has "How To: Creating your Personal Page". You may choose your name as the title.

The tools bar

This is the main menu, where you can change the appearance of what you type... You type what you decide, then you select the text, and click on the button to change the style, as in a word processing program. Here we recognize:

Fonts

Fonts are the different styles of letters to use. We may use as fonts
This text is in Arial
This text is in Courier
 This text is in Georgia
This text is in Helvetica
This text is in Times
This text is in Trebuchet
This text is in Verdana

Some fonts have "serifs"  ( Courier, Georgia, Times ) and some not. I like fonts with serifs, and all the newspapers have this kind of fonts. To see in a PC, probably fonts without serifs are easy to read
Search in Wikipedia what a serif is

Size of the font button

You may type the text in different sizes
Smallest Text
Small Text
Normal Text
Large Text
Largest Text

Bold / Italic / Striketrough buttons

You can control the way your text is seen

This is a normal text
This text is bold
This text is italic
This text is striketrough
Text in bold and italic

Color of the font / background buttons

You can play with colours, both the text and the background

This is a normal text
This text is green

This text is green, background is red

Link button

In another tutorial you may see how insert links in your Web Page.

Insert image button

Very simple. Click on it, select from your PC the image insert and you will see it in your Page. You may align the image ( left, centered, right ) and control the size.

This is the screen to select the image...

... and I am navigating to choose a photo, under Linux Operative System

Things to consider:
  • Don't upload big size photos ( more than 1 Mb ). This blog is limited to over 40 Mb to upload photos, so may get out of space soon. Fisrst, reduce your photos to over 300 Kb.
  • In another tutorial ( size matters! ) I will show you how to do it.
  • When you upload the photo, I usually CENTER the photo, but you can select Right, or Left situated.
  • The best size for the photo is LARGE.

Left / Center / Right / Justified  buttons

In a simple example, I will adjust a line of text in different ways. To show what justified text is, I have added a paragraph ( several lines )

This text is left aligned

This text is right aligned
This text is center aligned
This text is justified ( both left and right aligned),xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxx xx xxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxx xxxx xxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Ordered/ Unordered lists buttons

Very useful and used in Web Pages, specially with links. In this two examples we will see 2 lists... If each item of the list to another Web page, we have the standard structure of a Web Page. I have used this structure, for example, in "Wellcoming page", using a list with the names of our countries. Each name ( i.e. "Spanish wellcoming" ) is linked to the page ( post ) "Spanish wellcoming page"

Ordered list:
 ..... ( Your page ) ........
My hobbies are
  1. Sports
  2. Music
  3. Dance
  4. ..........
Unordered list:
..... ( Your page ) ........
My hobbies are
  • Sports
  • Music
  • Dance
  • .............
The text area
  • It is the window we have to show our Web page.
  • We can not change the size ...
  • The size of the windov is over 600 pixels

Preview/Edit HTML/Compose buttons

  • Preview: Click on it, and you may see how your page will be seen in Blogger
  • Edit HTML: This is an opcion that we will see in new lessons. But anyone who likes Computers, and Web pages should learn HTML.
  • Compose: Normally will be clicked. Here you see the page as a word processing  program.

The Labels Text Box

This is another link in this tutorial. But this Web page is in Tutorials labels

The Post Options button

We  don't need to use this option. We will see it in new lessons, with HTML.

The Publish / Save Now buttons
  • Publish Post: Click on it, and your Web page is on the net !
  • Save as a Draft: Now, your page won't be published, but it will saved. You can change it, or publish it later.

Activities:

1 Go to "New Post"in the menu bar.
2 In "the title", type your name.
3 Type about you ( age, hobbies, feelings... ).
4 Change the colours of  the text, and the font.
5 Try to show your hobbies as an unordered list.
6 Insert one personal image.

You may see some Personal Pages. Click on "Students Personal Presenations", in Main Menu on this blog, and you may see  Claudia Matescu (Italian), Eles Robert (Romanian), Josele, Valle or Lucia (Spanish).
Don't bother the  the links. It's my job

  1. I personally don't need this information, because I'm a Blogger user for a few years now, but for those who aren't - very useful information! Very nice explained, great job!

  2. Txs, weird fish,

It was a boring job, but I had to do it ... ( I allways get boring tasks :-( )

You will like other tutorials, the one related to links, or HTML.

I am really happy that you consider it was a nice explanation. Now I know I didn't waste my time. Well, I never waste my time in explanations, even if they are simple.
    Txs a lot again

    Yours, sincerely
    Josele
