Lake of Ioannina or Pamvotida

Ioannina is the largest city and capital of Epiros. The first thing you notice in Ioannina is that it’s almost surrounded by a lake. The Lake of Ioannina or Pamvotida, is the largest lake of Epirus, located near the central part of the Ioannina prefecture in Greece. Ioannina to the west and the town of Perama to the north are urban settlements fringing the lake while the remaining of its periphery is composed of farmland. The lake features small fishing ports and a boating port while the island is situated in the east of the lake. There is a regular boat service to the island. Mountains lie further north and south with Mitsikeli overhanging the east part of the lake. The lake's island, is the only inhabited lake-island in Greece. It's also the only inhabited island in Greece that does not bare a name, referred to as "The Island"

Ioannina by car should know that the road
network that leads to our city is quite
dangerous and if you are coming for the
first time you should be very careful.

The distance from Athens is 445 km via Patra, which is the
shortest way. The journey lasts for about 6 hours with a normal
average speed.

The distance from Thessaloniki is 260 km. The journey lasts for about 2 hours and 30 minutes with a normal average speed.
